Jaÿ-Z Reportedly Names Himself as His Pick for Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show

Jaÿ-Z has reportedly selected himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show in Los Angeles this coming February, ending weeks of speculation regarding who would take the world’s most-watched stage.

The 56-year-old rapper and entrepreneur serves as the chief strategist for the league’s musical performances through a long-term partnership between the NFL and his company, Roc Nation.

Sources close to the production indicate that Jaÿ-Z, born Shawn Carter, chose himself for the 2027 slot over other high-profile finalists including Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. The decision marks a significant milestone in the 2019 agreement between Roc Nation and the NFL, which was recently extended in 2024 for another five years. Under the deal, Carter acts as the primary curator for the league’s major entertainment events.

The Brooklyn-born mogul is currently experiencing a career resurgence fueled by nostalgia and record-breaking live ticket sales. In July, he grossed more than $42 million during a three-night residency at Yankee Stadium. The performances were part of a broader celebration marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” and the 25th anniversary of his landmark record, “The Blueprint.”

While Jaÿ-Z has not released a solo studio album since 2017’s double-platinum “4:44,” his influence on the industry remains unparalleled. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell originally brought Carter on board to modernize the halftime show and mend the league’s relationship with fans following the social justice protests led by Colin Kaepernick.

Critics have noted that Jaÿ-Z’s tenure as producer has shifted the show’s focus toward hip-hop and R&B, following recent performances by Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. Industry analysts suggest an official announcement could come as early as this weekend.

Jaÿ-Z is scheduled to perform two nearly sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium, the very venue that will host Super Bowl LXI. Fans are already speculating whether his wife, global superstar Beyoncé, or former collaborators like the Fugees will make guest appearances during the 13-minute set. The booking is not without its detractors, as some fans have voiced concerns over the perceived conflict of interest in the producer choosing himself for the gig.

However, supporters argue that Carter’s deep catalog of hits and his recent success at international venues, such as Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, make him a natural fit for the scale of the Super Bowl. Representatives for the NFL and Roc Nation have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the report.
