Two streaming giants may soon offer competing portraits of Wendy Williams, the former daytime television host whose career made her one of the most recognizable voices in American entertainment.

Netflix and Peacock are reportedly developing separate documentaries about Williams, according to The Sun. Neither company has confirmed the projects publicly. Still, reports suggest both productions are moving forward as interest in Williams’ career and personal life persists.

The documentaries are expected to examine Williams’ rise from radio to daytime television. They may also address her diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that have shaped the later years of her public life.

Peacock’s reported project could involve Suzanne Bass, a longtime producer of The Wendy Williams Show. Bass worked alongside Williams throughout much of the program’s run and occasionally appeared on camera with her.

Sources cited by The Sun said Bass initially hoped Williams could participate in the documentary. Communication between the two has reportedly since stalled. Williams’ current circumstances could prevent her from giving new interviews.

That could leave both projects dependent on archival footage and interviews with former colleagues, friends and family members. The approach would present filmmakers with a delicate challenge. They must examine Williams’ legacy without reducing her story to her health.

The reported documentaries follow a Lifetime film released in 2024. That production focused heavily on Williams’ personal struggles and health. It drew significant attention but also criticism over its depiction of her cognitive decline.
