New York Giants Stun Dallas Cowboys 28-20 In Season Opener

In an electric Sunday Night Football battle at MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants defeated the division-rival Dallas Cowboys 28-20.

The victory marked a triumphant debut for head coach John Harbaugh, who took the field wearing an NYPD cap in the first half and an FDNY hat in the second, visually grounding his team in the local legacy.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart led New York’s offense with three touchdown passes—two to Isaiah Likely and one to Devin Singletary. Cam Skattebo  also scored a short-yardage touchdown run. Dallas answered with a Dak Prescott touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb and two rushing scores from Javonte Williams. However, a taunting penalty on Williams’ second touchdown led to a missed extra point, keeping the Cowboys trailing by eight late in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, New York’s newly stacked pass rush dictated the terms of the game. The relentless triad of Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, and rookie Abdul Carter generated constant backfield pressure. Their aggressive front forced a pivotal interception by safety Jevon Holland late in the second quarter, denying Dallas momentum before the break and setting up a key score.

Despite putting the ball on the ground four times, the Giants managed to recover three of their own fumbles and executed when it mattered most. The 28-20 victory sets an immediate tone in the NFC East, delivering the Big Blue faithful a signature opening-night statement.

“This was really special because these guys, these players, these guys who have believed from the beginning, they don’t bat an eye,” Harbaugh said after the game.”They just try to do the right thing every single day and try to be on point. And even when they’re not on point, they’re going to bounce back and make it right. Maybe there is a mistake. Maybe there is a false start. They find a way to make a play and erase the mistake and make it right and make it better.”

By controlling the clock late and capitalizing on Dallas’s mistakes, the Giants sealed a statement 28-20 victory. Draining the final five minutes slammed the door on a Cowboys comeback, giving Big Blue an era.
