gunman in Louisiana shot 10 people early Sunday in what authorities described as a domestic violence attack spanning two homes, leaving eight children dead and two others injured in a tragedy that has shaken a neighbourhood in Shreveport.
According to AP News, the victims were between the ages of one and about 14, said Shreveport police spokesperson Chris Bordelon, who noted that some of the children were related to the suspect.
Police said the suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, prompting a pursuit by officers. The chase ended when law enforcement confronted the suspect, who was shot and later died from his injuries. Authorities have not released his identity but confirmed he was an adult male.
Investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack, which involved two homes and an additional location south of downtown Shreveport.
Liza Demming, who lives two houses away from one of the crime scenes, said her home security camera captured footage of the suspect fleeing in the direction of a nearby tyre shop.
She added that the audio recording picked up the sound of two gunshots.
“That’s’ pretty much all I saw, was him running out of the house,” she said.
Demming said she later saw the body of one of the child victims, already covered, lying on the roof of the house. She added that she had not heard any signs of a disturbance, such as a fight or argument, before the shooting.
“It was nothing loud, no altercations. It was quiet. Nothing,” she said.
