Hollywood legends Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have officially become grandfathers together following the birth of a baby girl born to their children, Jasmin Lawrence and Eric Murphy.

The “Beverly Hills Cop” star confirmed the news Saturday during the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony. Murphy revealed that the couple welcomed the baby reportedly one or two weeks ago, marking a new chapter for the two iconic comedic families.

Eric and Jasmin wed in a private ceremony in 2025 after several years of dating. The couple first went public with their relationship in 2021, a union that delighted fans of their famous fathers, who have shared the screen in films like “Life” and “Boomerang.” When asked by reporters if he had any words of wisdom for the first-time parents, Murphy took a characteristically humorous approach to child-rearing. “Oh you don’t give advice like that,” Murphy said. “You know your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”

Murphy added that children often ignore verbal instructions in favor of observing their parents’ actions. “So, I don’t give a lot of advice,” he said. Lawrence also expressed his pride regarding the new addition to the family. In a social media post earlier this year during the pregnancy, he noted that his heart was “overflowing with love and gratitude” as he watched his daughter embark on the journey of parenthood.

The announcement served as a highlight during a star-studded evening at the TUDUM Theater, where Murphy was honored for his decades of contributions to the film industry. The event drew a crowd of comedy royalty, including Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Arsenio Hall and Lawrence himself. Murphy told the audience he was overwhelmed by the presence of his collaborators and his large family. The tribute ceremony is scheduled to air as a special on Netflix on May 31.
