The Pussycat Dolls, the US pop group, has announced they will reunite as a trio for a new single and world tour.
Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt released a new track titled ‘Club Song’ and confirmed they will embark on a series of live shows beginning in June.
The reunion comes six years after a previously planned comeback and the release of the track ‘React’. It was however halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a legal dispute within the group.
In an interview with BBC, Kimberly described the reunion as “an incredible thing to be able to do after 20 years”, adding that the group has always had a flexible line-up.
“The timing of everything was just perfect,” she said.
“The Pussycat Dolls have always been known for an ever-changing line-up. It just so happens that right now we’re in a space where we feel united and in a place where we’re ready to push forward.”
Nicole added that the timing felt right and current reunion worked because everyone involved was in the right place in their lives.
“After 20 years, you’re like, ‘Where is everybody?’ But for us, it aligned. People are in different places in their lives, some of the other people have different commitments and priorities, but this worked out for us,” she said.
The 53-date PCD Forever tour will start in North America before heading to Europe in September. The European leg will include nine shows across the UK and Ireland.
The trio is scheduled to perform in Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester, before concluding the tour at the The O2 Arena on October 13.
The Pussycat Dolls rose to global fame in 2005 following the release of their debut album ‘PCD,’ which featured hits such as ‘Buttons’, ‘Don’t Cha’ and ‘I Don’t Need A Man’ and sold more than 9 million copies worldwide.
The group released their second album ‘Doll Domination’ in 2008, further cementing their pop success.
Following the completion of their 2009 world tour, the group went on hiatus and fully disbanded in 2010 as members pursued solo projects and internal tensions grew, particularly over Scherzinger’s dominant role as lead vocalist.
The original line-up had six members, but Jessica Sutta, Carmit Bachar and Melody Thornton are not part of the latest reunion.
The band had previously reunited in 2019, but plans to go on tour were postponed because of the pandemic. In 2022, the tour was cancelled.
