The Golden State Warriors signed superstar point guard Stephen Curry to a two-year, $116 million contract extension on Friday that includes a 2028-2029 player option.
Curry, 38, was set to make $62.5 million this upcoming season before becoming an unrestricted free agent. Unless he plans to play past the age of 40, Curry will officially finish a 20-year career with the Warriors.
The deal falls $20 million less than what Curry was eligible for and will grant the Warriors a lot of space to spend in the offseason following this year.
Curry previously mentioned that the contract situation will not affect his play or the team as they get ready for the season, stating, "I don't want there to be (any) drama."

The greatest three-point shooter in NBA history is still looking to lead at least one last championship run after entering the new season as an already four-time champion.
Since winning the 2021-2022 NBA Finals, the Warriors have missed the playoffs in two of the last four years. They finished last season with a 37-45 record, the first time finishing with a losing record since the 2020-2021 COVID season when they finished 15-50 (excluding COVID year would make their 23-43 record in 2011-2012 their most recent worst).
Curry is a 10x leader in three-pointers made per game. However, the past two seasons were the first time in his career that Curry shot 40% or below behind the arc in back-to-back years. His 2021-2022 campaign was the only other season in his 17-year career in which he shot below 40%.
The 12x All-Star only played in 43 games last season after dealing with a multitude of injuries that included runner's knee, bone bruising, and left Quadriceps contusion and strain.
He is the Warriors' all-time leader in both points (26,528) and assists (6,743), while being the all-time NBA leader in three-pointers made (4,248) and free-throw percentage (91.2%). He needs just 141 points to breach the top 20 all-time and 353 more assists to do the same in that category.
The two-time MVP has the chance to join LeBron James, James Harden, and Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history to rank top 20 in both points and assists. The feat is just a matter of time for one of the all-time greats.
Golden State's 2026-2027 season begins on October 21st against the Los Angeles Lakers.
