Ronda Rousey Submits Gina Carano in 17 Seconds in Netflix Comeback Fight

Ronda Rousey needed just 17 seconds to submit Gina Carano in their long‑teased Netflix main event, closing out her comeback with a vintage armbar. The bout headlined MVP MMA’s card at Intuit Dome in Inglewood and marked Rousey’s first fight in nearly a decade, while Carano returned after 17 years away from competition.

From the opening bell, Rousey charged forward, ate a leg kick and immediately shot for a takedown, dragging Carano to the mat within seconds. After briefly fending off a guillotine attempt, she passed to mount and locked in her signature armbar for a rapid tap that stunned the crowd and echoed her dominant UFC prime. Netflix’s own recap of the historic event breaks down the sequence and the rest of the card here.

For Rousey, the win was framed as a fairytale epilogue: she announced her second retirement in the cage afterwards, saying she wanted to go out on her own terms and focus on family. Carano, who reportedly shed around 100 pounds to make the 145‑pound limit, said just stepping back into the cage after so long felt like a victory in itself, even if she barely had time to get going before the finish.

The quick stoppage sparked some complaints that the matchup was anticlimactic or mismatched, but others argued it delivered exactly what had been sold: one last look at peak Rousey violence on a massive stage. ESPN’s results page has the official numbers from MVP MMA: Rousey defeats Carano by submission (armbar) at 0:17 of Round 1, headlining Netflix’s first‑ever live MMA event.
