Rapper Soulja Boy Declares For The 2028 U.S. Presidential Election

Soulja Boy has built his hip-hop career on claiming historic firsts. Now, the Atlanta rapper is considering his most ambitious move yet: running for president of the United States.

The “Crank That” hitmaker announced his political aspirations through Instagram, outlining four priorities for a potential presidential campaign.

“My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI,” he wrote.

Soulja Boy also connected his political ambitions to his experience in music, entrepreneurship and technology.

“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible,” he continued.

“Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service. The future starts with a conversation.”

The rapper has not announced an official presidential campaign, political affiliation or election year. His Instagram statement also offered few details about specific policies.

Still, Soulja Boy would not be the first hip-hop artist to pursue the White House.

Kanye West launched an independent presidential campaign in 2020 under the Birthday Party banner. The controversial rapper also expressed ambitions for the 2024 election.

Soulja Boy’s interest in artificial intelligence adds another dimension to his political platform.

In October 2025, he criticized increasingly realistic AI-generated videos and questioned their impact on society.

“This AI s**t is sick,” he wrote. “What type of world are we living in for real?”

His concerns about emerging technology contrast with his longstanding reputation as an early adopter of digital platforms.

Soulja Boy helped revolutionize online music promotion during the 2000s, using social media to build his audience.

More recently, the rapper expanded into livestreaming, a growing business among hip-hop entertainers.

That transition sparked controversy in January 2026 when media personality DJ Akademiks criticized rappers embracing streaming.

“The internet removed all mystique from rappers,” Akademiks argued.

He suggested constant online exposure weakened the larger-than-life image traditionally associated with successful recording artists.

Soulja Boy responded with an angry, profanity-filled tirade, defending musicians who explore streaming opportunities.

His latest announcement represents another attempt to expand his influence beyond recording music.

However, transforming celebrity recognition into a credible presidential campaign would require substantial political organization, fundraising and voter support.

For now, Soulja Boy’s presidential aspirations remain exploratory, with no formal candidacy or comprehensive policy agenda announced.

Whether his ambitions become an actual campaign remains uncertain, but the rapper has made his interest in public office clear.
