A version of the Air Jordan 6 that never reached stores in the 1990s is set for its first public release in early 2026.
Jordan Brand announced that the Air Jordan 6 Infrared “Salesman,” inspired by an unreleased 1999 sample, will launch Feb. 14 on nike.com and at select retailers. The release comes during the 35th anniversary year of the Air Jordan 6.
The shoe traces its origins to a seasonal preview catalog from 1999, where an Infrared colorway appeared before being removed from production. That version differed from previous releases by extending the Infrared color across much of the midsole, rather than limiting it to the heel and parts of the toe.
The upcoming release brings that sample to market for the first time. The shoe includes a black nubuck upper, a visible Air unit in the heel and a Dynamic Fit inner sleeve. Jordan Brand said the Infrared shade was reverse engineered by comparing pairs from 1991 and 2000 to match original specifications.
The “Salesman” edition is also the first non-collaboration Air Jordan 6 to feature an updated shape modeled after the 1991 version worn by Michael Jordan. Changes include a modified internal bootie for a closer toe shape and a tongue raised by 2 millimeters to reflect game-worn pairs.

The Air Jordan 6 holds a central place in basketball history. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the model was worn by Jordan during the 1991 playoffs, when he won his first NBA championship and Finals MVP award. Since then, the Infrared colorway has seen several retro releases, with changes to branding and color treatment.
Details on the new release reference its sample origins. The shoe includes printed sample text on the inner collar, along with a factory hangtag and packaging designed to resemble how footwear samples are sent for review and retail presentation.
“It’s the centerpiece of the Infrared Collection,” said Terrance Harvey, expert in streetwear footwear product management icons at Jordan Brand. “MJ won his first championship in this colorway, and since then, it has represented greatness. I’m excited for this newly reimagined icon to inspire fans to always strive for more.”
Alongside the shoe, Jordan Brand will release an apparel collection featuring Infrared design graphics, as well as additional footwear with Infrared detailing, including the Air Jordan 1 Low and the Flight Court.
The Air Jordan 6 Infrared “Salesman” will be available starting Feb. 14.
