Hip-Hop received the sad news that Miami rapper Jha Jha, best known as the “First Lady of The Diplomats,” passed away on Sunday (March 29). She was 42.

Real name Natoya Handy, the rapper built her reputation during the explosive mixtape era of the 2000s. She rose to fame during Jim Jones’s Byrdgang era, an extension of Dipset.

News of her death began circulating after J.R. Writer posted a tribute on Instagram. The Harlem lyricist shared the cover of Jha Jha’s 2007 project Git It Girl with a brief message: “RIP Jha Jha.”

Supporters soon gathered on Handy’s Instagram page to leave condolences beneath her final post. Many remembered her contributions to the Dipset movement and the presence she carried on records and mixtapes.

“You are legendary and you always showed me love,” one fan wrote. “I’ll always be grateful to you. The world lost an icon truly.”

Another message focused on her family and loved ones. “Prayers to your son & family!!” the supporter wrote, echoing the grief shared by many online.

During the early 2000s, Handy became a familiar voice around Dipset’s expanding circle. Her verses surfaced during a period when mixtapes drove hip-hop culture and street buzz shaped careers. Artists traded features, surprise releases, and collaborations that strengthened the movement’s identity.

Within that environment, Handy worked closely with Jim Jones and the ByrdGang collective. She appeared on tracks such as “Get It Poppin” and “What You Drinkin’ On?,” records that circulated widely among Dipset supporters.

As news of her passing spreads, listeners are revisiting those songs across streaming platforms. Fans continue sharing memories of her bars, charisma, and loyalty to the Harlem crew.

At press time, Handy’s family has not announced a cause of death or funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, tributes continue building across social media as hip-hop reflects on the legacy she leaves behind.
