A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly pushed his estranged girlfriend and their infant daughter from a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx earlier this week.

The New York Police Department identified the victim as 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez, who was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center following the fall. Her 8-month-old daughter, who was reportedly being held by Ramirez at the time of the incident, remains in critical but stable condition at the same facility. Authorities arrested Angel Carrasco, 31, and charged him with a litany of offenses, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, and assault.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Allerton section of the Bronx, where police responded to 911 calls reporting two people suffering from injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position. Law enforcement sources said Carrasco had arrived at the apartment carrying flowers in an attempt to reconcile with Ramirez. The situation reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation when the reconciliation attempt failed. Investigators found a discarded bouquet of flowers at the scene. The tragedy follows a history of domestic violence allegations between the pair. Police records show Carrasco was previously charged with third-degree assault on Jan. 5 for allegedly slapping Ramirez.

Just three days later, he was charged in connection with a break-in at her residence, though the details of that case were later sealed. “This is a devastating case of domestic violence that has left a family shattered,” a police spokesperson said regarding the ongoing homicide investigation. Detectives spent much of Tuesday examining the 15th-floor balcony for evidence while a manhunt for Carrasco was underway before his eventual capture.

Neighbors in the Allerton building described a chaotic scene as emergency responders arrived to find the young mother and child on the ground. The infant continues to fight for her life as of Friday morning.

Carrasco is currently being held as he awaits further court proceedings on the felony charges.
