Authorities arrested a 27-year-old man Sunday after he allegedly broke into a Hidden Hills estate owned by media personality Kim Kardashian and stole a vehicle for a joyride.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the incident occurred at a property currently undergoing extensive renovations. A security guard stationed at the residence contacted law enforcement shortly before 4 p.m. to report a burglary in progress.
Neither Kardashian nor her four children were present at the home during the time of the break-in, officials said. Investigators said the suspect gained entry to the gated property through a side door. Once inside the perimeter, the man was reportedly observed loading various items into a vehicle. The sheriff’s department later determined the suspect had commandeered a car parked on the premises.
While early reports suggested the vehicle might belong to the reality television star, investigators clarified that the stolen car actually belonged to a staff member working at the site. The suspect allegedly took the vehicle for a joyride before he was apprehended by responding deputies. The 27-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was booked on suspicion of residential burglary and grand theft auto.
It remains unclear if any high-value items were successfully removed from the home during the incident.
Kardashian has not issued a formal statement regarding the security breach. The Hidden Hills community, a wealthy enclave in Los Angeles County known for its celebrity residents and private security, has seen a string of similar high-profile incidents involving trespassers in recent years.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that the investigation remains active as they work to determine if the suspect was acting alone or if the property was targeted specifically because of its owner. Officials have not disclosed the total value of the items recovered from the scene.
