Ice Spice is stepping into a new lane this winter as she officially joins the world of animation.
Nearly three years after she released her hit “Bikini Bottom,” the rapper is now part of The SpongeBob Movie Search for SquarePants. The sequel arrives in theaters on December 19 through Paramount Pictures, and fans just got their first look at her character. Billboard shared an exclusive preview on Monday, November 17th, revealing an animated version of Ice Spice with her trademark bright orange curls. In the clip, she delivers a confident warning in her Bronx accent, saying, “Don’t make me call security.”
For Ice Spice, being included in a SpongeBob project feels like something she spoke into existence long before it happened. She explained that she truly believes she “manifested” this moment. In a behind the scenes featurette for the film directed by Derek Drymon, she opened up about how different the experience was for her. “I think I manifested this,” she said. “It was a challenge, but it was really fun, new and different. I never did anything like this.”
She is joining a cast filled with familiar names including Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro and George Lopez. Along with voicing a character, Ice Spice also created an original song for the soundtrack. Last week, she released “Big Guy,” a playful and family friendly track produced by her longtime collaborator RIOTUSA. She shared how meaningful the moment is, saying, “Being part of the SpongeBob soundtrack is such a full circle moment for me. It’s crazy to see my music in a movie that’s been part of so many people’s childhoods, including mine.”
Ice Spice already has more acting lined up. In August she appeared in Spike Lee’s film Highest 2 Lowest with Denzel Washington and A$AP Rocky, marking her official entrance into the movie world and expanding her reach beyond music.
