Gorillaz’ ninth studio album, The Mountain, is due out February 27, 2026, via their own Kong label, with distribution through Sony’s The Orchard. The band has shared artwork, tracklist and pre‑order details on their official Gorillaz website, where fans can also stream the advance singles.
It’s a 15‑track, collaboration‑heavy project that early write‑ups describe as a “vast sonic tapestry” about grief, hope and pushing through loss. The guest list includes Black Thought, IDLES, Johnny Marr, Sparks, Omar Souleyman, Yasiin Bey and Anoushka Shankar, with opener “The Hardest Thing” built around the voice of the late drummer Tony Allen, one of Damon Albarn’s closest musical partners.
Gorillaz have already started rolling out new music this year, kicking things off with “The Hardest Thing,” a slow‑building tribute to Allen that folds his spoken‑word intro into a brass‑heavy, almost funeral‑procession groove. Paired with “Orange County” on a double A‑side, the track plays like a prologue for the record’s themes of grief and letting go, hinting at how expansive The Mountain is likely to feel.
Several songs are already out ahead of the full release, giving a good sense of the album’s darker, more reflective tone. Alongside “The Happy Dictator,” “The Manifesto” and “The God of Lying,” the band has dropped “Damascus” and the recent double A‑side “The Hardest Thing” / “Orange County,” which debuted via a Bizarrap‑hosted mix on BBC Radio 1.
