Davido Announces Fifth Studio Album 5ive, Kicking Off with New Single "Funds"

Nigerian-American superstar Davido is ready to make history again. On Thursday (Dec. 5), he announced the upcoming release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, slated for 2025. Taking to Instagram, he shared the deeply personal nature of the project, writing, “This one is straight from the heart – my story, my truth, my growth.”

The album’s rollout has already begun, with the first single, “Funds,” featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, dropping tonight at 6 p.m. EST. “This one’s for the dreamers, the go-getters, and everyone chasing what’s theirs! Thank you for riding with me. Let’s make history again!!!” he added in the announcement.

According to Rolling Stone, “Funds” features a sample of South African icon Brenda Fassie’s 1997 classic “Vuli Ndlela.” Fans got a preview of the track when Davido performed it with Odumodublvck during his birthday concert at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

“‘Funds’ is a celebration of the hustle and the journey,” Davido said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Working with Odumodublvck and Chike on this track was magic. They brought their own unique energy, and together we created something special. This song isn’t just about money – it’s about the mindset, the struggle, and the rewards that come with staying true to your grind. It’s a vibe that resonates across cultures.”

He continued, “With 5ive on the way, I’m bringing that same energy – African pride, global sound. We’re just getting started.”

5ive will follow his 2023 album, Timeless, which debuted on March 31 via Davido Music Worldwide, Columbia Records, and Sony Music Entertainment. The critically acclaimed project peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and No. 37 on the Billboard 200. It also earned a nomination for best global music album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The album’s breakout single, “Unavailable,” featuring Musa Keys, reached No. 3 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and was nominated for best African music performance.

With 5ive and its lead single promising to build on this momentum, Davido is poised to elevate his legacy further, blending African pride with a global soundscape. Fans can’t wait to see what the trailblazing artist has in store next.
