Cam’ron has filed a lawsuit against J. Cole surrounding their collaborative track “Ready ’24.”
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Cam’ron alleges that he “wrote lyrics and dropped a verse on the song in exchange for Cole agreeing to collaborate with him on a future project or at least appear on Cam’s popular ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast.”
Cam’ron maintains that the recording took place in 2022, with his efforts to follow up beginning in July 2023 and extending through April 2024. During that period, he says he repeatedly reached out to J. Cole, who responded that he was unavailable to appear on the podcast. In the end, Cam claims, “the subsequent music collaboration between them never materialized, despite efforts by Cam to put it together.”
By pressing the court to recognise him as a co-author of “Ready ’24,” Cam’ron is seeking an accounting of all revenues generated by the track. His estimate? More than $500,000. Through this action he hopes to claim what he says is his share from the song’s earnings.
At this time there has been no public response from J. Cole or his representatives, despite outreach seeking comment.
This legal conflict underscores how informal or verbal deals in the music world—podcast appearances, future collabs, lyrical contributions—can lead to courtroom drama when one party believes the agreement wasn’t honoured.
