Brooklyn Beckham Goes Public About Estrangement from His Parents

David and Brooklyn Beckham’s relationship has drawn widespread attention after Brooklyn shared a lengthy Instagram statement explaining why he is currently estranged from his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, a moment widely covered in UK and US media including BBC’s report on his comments. In multiple Instagram Story slides, he alleged that his parents and their team have repeatedly gone to the press about his private life and tried to control the narrative around his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, saying he has “been silent for years” and now wants to tell his side. Brooklyn also stated that he does not want to reconcile with his family, and described feeling that “Brand Beckham comes first” and that endorsements and public image have been prioritized over private relationships.

In that statement and in subsequent coverage, Brooklyn outlined several specific complaints about past family events. He said his parents attempted to interfere with his 2022 wedding, including alleging that Victoria withdrew from designing Nicola’s dress late in the process, that relatives questioned whether Nicola was “family,” and that his mother “hijacked” his first dance by joining him onstage and, in his view, dancing with him in a way he considered inappropriate and embarrassing. Reports have also highlighted his claims that a planned visit for David’s 50th birthday ended with him feeling turned away, that he has at times communicated through lawyers, and that he has blocked some family members on social media.

David and Victoria Beckham have not addressed each allegation in detail but have been represented in coverage through unnamed sources who say they are hurt by the public nature of Brooklyn’s remarks, believe they tried to mend the relationship, and maintain that they love and support their son. David’s only substantial on‑camera response so far has come in a business and philanthropy interview, where he did not mention Brooklyn by name but spoke more generally about social media, saying his children “are allowed to make mistakes,” that mistakes are part of learning, and that he aims to guide them while letting them learn from their own decisions, while also emphasizing how he uses his own platforms to promote charity work.
