The 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend tipped off on Friday in Los Angeles, marking the seventh time the city is hosting the league’s annual midseason showcase.
One of the opening highlights is a timed shooting competition featuring four teams, each made up of two NBA players and one NBA legend. The teams are built around All-Star connections, school and team affiliations, and family ties.
Team Harper features a five-time NBA champion competing alongside his sons — Dylan Harper of the San Antonio Spurs and Ron Harper Jr. of the Boston Celtics.
The State Farm 3-Point Contest will showcase five 2026 NBA All-Stars: Devin Booker, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray and Norman Powell.
Among the field are former contest winners Booker, who claimed the title in 2018, and nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard, a two-time champion in 2023 and 2024.
Four players will be making their 3-Point Contest debuts: Kon Knueppel, Maxey, Murray and Bobby Portis. Knueppel could become the first rookie to win the competition.
The two-round contest requires players to shoot from multiple three-point locations within 70 seconds. The top three scorers from the opening round advance to the final, where the highest score determines the champion.
Meanwhile, the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest will crown a new champion this year, with all four participants making their event debuts. The field includes two rookies: Carter Bryant and Jase Richardson.
Bryant, a 6-foot-6 forward, was selected 14th overall by San Antonio in the 2025 NBA Draft, while Richardson, a 6-foot-1 guard, was picked 25th overall by Orlando. Richardson is the son of former NBA star Jason Richardson, a two-time Slam Dunk champion in 2002 and 2003.
Also competing are Jaxson Hayes, a 7-foot center in his seventh NBA season and third with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Keshad Johnson, a 6-foot-6 forward in his second NBA season after splitting time last year between Miami and its G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
The Slam Dunk Contest will follow a two-round format, with judges scoring each dunk. In the opening round, all four players will attempt two dunks, with the top two advancing to the final. Each finalist will then perform two additional dunks, with the highest combined score determining the champion.
